An All Too Familiar Tale: Why Electrical Certification Matters

Last year, I provided a quotation for a full rewire at a property. Unfortunately, the customer decided to use a family friend instead. These things happen, and I wished them well with the project.

Fast forward to last week, and I received a call asking me to look at some additional electrical work.

As the property had recently undergone a full rewire, I expected the work to be relatively straightforward. However, on inspection, it became clear that the rewire had not been fully completed and some of the original wiring was still in use.

The customer explained that they had experienced several issues with the project and were unable to get the original electrician back to complete the work. When I asked for the electrical installation certificate for the rewire, unfortunately, no certification had been provided.

Why Electrical Certification Matters

Electrical installation work should always be completed by a suitably qualified and registered electrician. Certification provides important confirmation that the work has been inspected, tested and completed in accordance with the relevant standards.

When choosing an electrician, always check that they are registered with a recognised Competent Person Scheme and that the appropriate certification will be provided when required.
